The interface is intuitive, but there’s a lot to it. The following tips will guide you through the easiest ways to access the most widely used features:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"//experiencecloud.adobe.com/\">Adobe Experience Cloud</a>. You need your Adobe ID and password, which your administrator set up. After you’ve logged in, click the Solution Selector icon in the top-right corner (it looks like three rows of three dots each), and choose Analytics from the drop-down menu.</li>\n<li>To make sure you’re in Analysis Workspace, look at the top-left of your screen and confirm that the word <em>Workspace</em> is highlighted. If Reports is highlighted instead, click Workspace to switch to Adobe’s most powerful browser-based analytics tool.</li>\n<li>Create a new project by clicking the blue Create New Project button and then choosing a blank template or one of Adobe’s preconfigured templates.</li>\n<li>Define a timeframe for your project by clicking anywhere in the date that appears in the top-right corner of Analysis Workspace. You can manually enter dates in the two boxes (Start and Finish), or click in the calendar to set start and finish dates for your project’s timeframe. You can also click the drop-down menu above the blue Apply button to find an abundance of prebuilt time ranges, including Last 7 Days and Last Month.</li>\n<li>Create a panel for tables or visualizations by clicking the Add Blank Panel link in the large section of Analysis Workspace to the right of your screen. You can choose from a set of table and visualization options.</li>\n<li>Toggle between displaying and hiding the left rail by hovering your cursor over (or off) the left edge of the Analysis Workspace screen.</li>\n<li>Quickly access panels, visualizations, and components by clicking one of the three icons at the top of the left rail.</li>\n<li>Add a freeform table by clicking the Visualizations icon in the left rail, and then dragging and dropping the top item, Freeform Tables, into your blank panel on the right.</li>\n<li>Add a dimension, metric, segment, or timeframe to a panel by clicking Components in the left rail and then dragging the element to your freeform table.</li>\n<li>Quickly find components by entering a string of numbers, letters, and symbols in the Search box at the top of the left rail.</li>\n<li>When in doubt, right-click. Many of the most widely used features in Analysis Workspace appear in context menus.</li>\n</ul>\n"},{"title":"Engagement Metrics You Need for Adobe Analytics","thumb":null,"image":null,"content":"<p>Take advantage of the advanced features in Adobe Analytics by building and applying <em>calculated metrics,</em> the data points created in Adobe Analytics after data has been processed and is accessible in the Adobe interface. Interestingly, calculated metrics don’t have to contain a calculation, but they usually do. A calculated metric in Adobe Analytics could be a metric with a different attribution method, segment, or calculation applied to it. Following are several simple calculated metrics that you should find useful as you begin your Adobe Analytics journey.</p>\n<h2>Page views per visit metric</h2>\n<p>Companies care about the amount of visitor engagement on their website and mobile app. A common metric that dissects engagement uses this calculation: page views divided by visits. The thinking behind this metric is simple:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Page views: </strong>Focuses on quantity, showing the amount of content viewed</li>\n<li><strong>Visits: </strong>Focuses on quality and is used as the denominator to ensure that the analysis is focusing on visits in which a lot of content is viewed at once</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The page views per visit metric has been used by digital analysts for decades and provides a useful lens into the quality of the visits that are being driven by your marketing channels, device types, or geographies. The following figure shows how the metric is built in Adobe’s interface.</p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-260420\" src=\"//coursofppt.com/wp-content/uploads/analytics-metric.jpg\" alt=\"analytics-metric\" width=\"535\" height=\"266\" /></p>\n<p>When you apply the page views per visit metric (or any calculated metric), also include in your analysis a metric that isn’t calculated. This non-calculated metric will help provide context to your analysis. For example, suppose you’re analyzing mobile devices that access your site and notice that a specific device, the Microsoft Kin, has the highest page views per visit by far. Before you call your team to let them know that your site has to be rebuilt with the dimensions of this device from 2010 in mind, it would be smart to add the visits and unique visitors metrics to your analysis. This additional context will help you realize that page views per visit was high for the Kin because only one visitor came to your site with that device. The additional context of your non-calculated metrics provided a valuable lesson: Don’t be fooled by high calculations without context.</p>\n<h2>Content velocity</h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, page views per visit has other faults besides a potential lack of context. When page views per visit is applied to the page dimension, it shows only the number of times each page is revisited, on average, within a visit. A more interesting question is, “What pages help drive additional page views on other pages?” The answer will provide you with the pages that are most likely to encourage your visitors to be engaged on your site. This additional metric is easy to build. The metrics are the same as page views per visit, with page views in the numerator and visits in the denominator. The only change has to do with the attribution model applied to the numerator. Use the Calculated Metric Builder in Adobe to apply a non-default attribution model set to Participation, as shown in the following figure.</p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-260419\" src=\"//coursofppt.com/wp-content/uploads/analytics-calculated-metric.jpg\" alt=\"analytics-calculated-metric\" width=\"535\" height=\"269\" /></p>\n<p>Thanks to the magic of participation, every subsequent page view is included in the count of page views when you apply participation. After you create the content velocity metric, you can apply it to the page dimension to discover the pages that are not only being viewed often per visit but are also convincing your visitors to continue reading other pages on your site, too.</p>\n"},{"title":"Adobe Analytics Analysis Workspace Productivity Hacks","thumb":null,"image":null,"content":"<p>Face it: You’re busy at work. Whether you’re a marketer, an analyst, or a data scientist, your time is limited and your calendar is full of meetings. To make the most of the time that you spend in Adobe’s Analysis Workspace tool, use the following list of our favorite productivity hacks to make the most of every second that you spend in the Adobe interface:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>When working in a freeform table, you may want to select multiple rows of data at the same time. Shift-click (Mac and PC) to select multiple contiguous rows of data. Or Command-click (Mac) or Control-click (PC) to select multiple noncontiguous rows of data.</li>\n<li>Our most-used keyboard shortcut is Command+S (Mac) or Control+S (PC) to save the current project. We’re compulsive savers because we know there’s always a chance that the browser or computer will crash, and we’d hate to lose our analysis work. Add Shift to this keyboard combination (Command+ Shift +S on a Mac or Control+Shift +S on a PC) to Save As so you can duplicate and rename the project.</li>\n<li>Another useful keyboard shortcut is Command+C (Mac) or Control+C (PC) to copy data from a freeform table to the clipboard. We like to use this to more easily extract data out of Analysis Workspace into other analysis tools such as Excel or even into an email message.</li>\n<li>If we were to analyze the keyboard shortcuts that we use the most, Command+Z (Mac) or Control+Z (PC) would be high on this list. This keyboard shortcut for undo is useful when analyzing because you often begin exploring your data in one path, realize there isn’t much of interest there, and then want to undo your work step by step. If you ever undo too far, you can always press Command+Shift+Z (Mac) or Control+Shift+Z (PC) to redo a step.</li>\n<li>We love creating calculated metrics on-the-fly. This task is necessary when you have two metrics in a freeform table to which you want to apply a simple calculation: divide, subtract, add, or multiply. First, highlight the column headers of two metrics (by clicking to highlight one metric, then Shift-click or Command-click or Control-click a second metric). Second, right-click one of the highlighted column headers. Third, click Create Metric from Selection and choose the math operator to apply. If you want to apply a function to just a single calculated metric, apply Mean, Median, Column Max, Column Min, or Column Sum to any single metric. One final timesaver is to open a single metric in Calculated Metric Builder, as shown at the end of the following figure.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-260424\" src=\"//coursofppt.com/wp-content/uploads/analytics-single-metric.jpg\" alt=\"analytics-single-metric\" width=\"535\" height=\"362\" /></p>\n<p>Each of these productivity hacks will help speed your analysis and increase your skill. We hope you enjoy all the free time you now have to continue learning about Analysis Workspace!</p>\n"}],"videoInfo":{"videoId":null,"name":null,"accountId":null,"playerId":null,"thumbnailUrl":null,"description":null,"uploadDate":null}},"sponsorship":{"sponsorshipPage":false,"backgroundImage":{"src":null,"width":0,"height":0},"brandingLine":"","brandingLink":"","brandingLogo":{"src":null,"width":0,"height":0},"sponsorAd":"","sponsorEbookTitle":"","sponsorEbookLink":"","sponsorEbookImage":{"src":null,"width":0,"height":0}},"primaryLearningPath":"Advance","lifeExpectancy":"Six If you have an Advanced subscription, QuickBooks migrates the users’ rights as closely as possible; otherwise, you need to establish the users’ rights manually.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Price levels</td>\n<td>QuickBooks Online doesn’t offer price levels.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Reminders</td>\n<td>Advanced users can create tasks and workflows. Accountant version users can create projects that are related groups of tasks.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Vehicle list</td>\n<td>You must add vehicles manually to the fixed assets list in QuickBooks Online.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Reconciliation reports</td>\n<td>All reconciled items transfer to QuickBooks Online, but you must go back to QuickBooks Desktop to review any old reconciliation reports.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Subtotal items</td>\n<td>You can add subtotals to future transaction documents.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Recurring credit card charges</td>\n<td>You must first cancel any Automatic Credit Card recurring charges from your Merchant Center and then re-create them as recurring sales receipts. All other recurring transactions import.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Memorized reports</td>\n<td>Memorized reports in QuickBooks Desktop are referred to as Customized Reports in QuickBooks Online. You need to re-create all your QuickBooks Desktop reports manually. Note that QuickBooks Advanced offers a custom report writer that isn’t offered in the Simple Start, Essentials, or Plus versions of QuickBooks.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Audit trail</td>\n<td>You need to refer to QuickBooks Desktop for your previous audit trail, but a new audit trail is logged in QuickBooks Online.</td>\n</tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Inventory from QuickBooks for Mac</td>\n<td>You can’t export inventory directly from QuickBooks for Mac to QuickBooks Online. Download the aforementioned free trial of QuickBooks Desktop for Windows, open your Mac company in that version, and then migrate your data.</td>\n</tr>\n</tbody>\n</table>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Accounting software conversions always entail some amount of manual effort. There’s also a learning curve during which you acclimate to the new software. Plan to give yourself three months for things to smooth out.</p>\n<p>The best practice is to run both the old software and the new software concurrently for about 90 days, a process referred to as running the programs in parallel. This ensures that you can easily continue with the old software if you discover an unexpected dealbreaker in the new program you’re trying out.</p>\n<h3>Features not fully available in QuickBooks Online</h3>\n<p>QuickBooks Desktop users who need the following features should think twice before moving to QuickBooks Online:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>To Do notes</li>\n<li>Complete Job Costing</li>\n<li>Sales Orders</li>\n<li>Fixed Asset Tracking</li>\n<li>Estimate to Actual Reporting</li>\n</ul>\n<p>None of these features is directly supported in QuickBooks Online. For instance, QuickBooks Online offers a fixed asset, but it’s simply a list and doesn’t offer tracking. You may be able to locate add-ons to QuickBooks Online that provide the functionality you need on the <a href=\"//quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QuickBooks App Store</a>.</p>\n<p class=\"article-tips tip\">Mileage tracking is available in QuickBooks Online both via the mobile app and in your browser, but only for admin users. If you want to allow your employees to track miles without giving them administrative rights to your books, go to the QuickBooks App Store for available add-ins.</p>\n"}],"videoInfo":{"videoId":null,"name":null,"accountId":null,"playerId":null,"thumbnailUrl":null,"description":null,"uploadDate":null}},"sponsorship":{"sponsorshipPage":false,"backgroundImage":{"src":null,"width":0,"height":0},"brandingLine":"","brandingLink":"","brandingLogo":{"src":null,"width":0,"height":0},"sponsorAd":"","sponsorEbookTitle":"","sponsorEbookLink":"","sponsorEbookImage":{"src":null,"width":0,"height":0}},"primaryLearningPath":"Advance","lifeExpectancy":"Five years","lifeExpectancySetFrom":"2024-10-31T00:00:00+00:00","dummiesForKids":"no","sponsoredContent":"no","adInfo":"","adPairKey":[]},"status":"publish","visibility":"public","articleId":207403},{"headers":{"creationTime":"2023-11-02T15:26:03+00:00","modifiedTime":"2024-10-31T16:48:10+00:00","timestamp":"2024-10-31T18:01:08+00:00"},"data":{"breadcrumbs":[{"name":"Technology","_links":{"self":"//dummies-api.coursofppt.com/v2/categories/33512"},"slug":"technology","categoryId":33512},{"name":"Software","_links":{"self":"//dummies-api.coursofppt.com/v2/categories/33618"},"slug":"software","categoryId":33618},{"name":"Money Management Software","_links":{"self":"//dummies-api.coursofppt.com/v2/categories/33653"},"slug":"money-management-software","categoryId":33653},{"name":"QuickBooks","_links":{"self":"//dummies-api.coursofppt.com/v2/categories/33656"},"slug":"quickbooks","categoryId":33656}],"title":"QuickBooks 2024 All-in-One For Dummies Cheat Sheet","strippedTitle":"quickbooks 2024 all-in-one for dummies cheat sheet","slug":"quickbooks-2023-all-in-one-for-dummies-cheat-sheet","canonicalUrl":"","百度搜指数擎系统系统seo调整":{"metaDescription":"Your day-to-day use of QuickBooks 2024 will go a lot smoother and quicker if you know a handful of these tricks and keyboard shortcuts.","noIndex":0,"noFollow":0},"content":"QuickBooks 2024 makes small-business accounting fast and easy. Each drawing file created in AutoCAD can contain references to more than a dozen other kinds of files, the most important of which are described in the following table. Thus, before you start exchanging drawings via the Internet, you need to assemble the drawings with all their dependent files.\r\n<table><caption>Kinds of Files That DWG Files Commonly Reference</caption>\r\n<thead>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Description</td>\r\n<td>File Types</td>\r\n<td>Consequence If Missing</td>\r\n</tr>\r\n</thead>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Custom font files</td>\r\n<td>SHX, TTF</td>\r\n<td>AutoCAD substitutes another font</td>\r\n</tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Other drawings (xrefs)</td>\r\n<td>DWG, DGN, DWF, DWFx, PDF</td>\r\n<td>Stuff in the main drawing disappears</td>\r\n</tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Raster graphics files</td>\r\n<td>JPG, PCX, TIFF, and others</td>\r\n<td>Stuff in the drawing disappears</td>\r\n</tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>Plot style tables</td>\r\n<td>CTB, STB</td>\r\n<td>Lineweights and other plotted effects don’t look right when the drawing is plotted</td>\r\n</tr>\r\n</tbody>\r\n</table>\r\n<p class=\"article-tips tech\">The table above doesn’t exhaust the types of files that your DWG files might refer to. Custom plotter settings (such as custom paper sizes) may reside in PC3 or PMP files. If you use sheet sets, DST files contain information about the sheet structure. An FMP file controls some aspects of font mapping. Look up sheet sets and the FONTALT and FONTMAP system variables in the AutoCAD online help system for detailed information.</p>\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"tab3\" >Using AutoCAD’s rapid eTransmit</h2>\r\nFortunately, AutoCAD’s ETRANSMIT command pulls together all files that the main DWG file depends on. Follow these steps to assemble a drawing with all its dependent files by using ETRANSMIT:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Open the drawing on which you want to run ETRANSMIT.\r\n\r\n\r\nIf the drawing is already open, save it. You have to save the file just before using ETRANSMIT.</li>\r\n \t<li>Click the Application button and choose Publish→eTransmit from the Application menu.<strong>\r\n\r\n\r\n</strong>The Create Transmittal dialog box appears.\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_264978\" align=\"aligncenter\" width=\"535\"]<img class=\"wp-image-264978 size-full\" src=\"//coursofppt.com/wp-content/uploads/autocad-etransmit.jpg\" alt=\"AutoCAD eTransmit\" width=\"535\" height=\"440\" /> Using eTransmit to share AutoCAD drawings.[/caption]</li>\r\n \t<li>On the Files Tree tab or the Files Table tab, remove the check mark next to any file that you want ETRANSMIT <em>not</em> to copy with the main drawing.\r\n<strong>\r\n\r\n</strong>Unless you have assigned custom font mapping, you can omit the <code>Acad.fmp</code> file (in AutoCAD) or <code>acadlt.fmp</code> (in AutoCAD LT).</li>\r\n \t<li>Select a transmittal setup from the list.\r\n\r\n\r\nTransmittal setups contain settings that control how ETRANSMIT processes the drawings and creates the transmittal package. Click the Transmittal Setups button to create new setups or modify existing setups. The default Standard transmittal setup works fine for most purposes. In any case, you should view the settings (click the Modify button) just to see what options you can change if you need to later.\r\n<p class=\"article-tips warning\">If you want AutoCAD to include SHX and TTF font files, including any custom fonts that you’re using, you must turn on the Include Fonts setting in the transmittal setup. However, many custom fonts work like licensed software. Sending them to others is just like sharing your AutoCAD program installation media with others: illegal and unethical. Don’t share licensed text fonts outside your organization.</p>\r\n</li>\r\n \t<li>Click the View Report button.\r\n\r\n\r\nYou see a report listing the files that ETRANSMIT will copy, along with warnings about any files that it can’t locate.</li>\r\n \t<li>Review the report and make sure that ETRANSMIT was able to find all the files.<strong>\r\n\r\n\r\n</strong>If files are missing, find them and move or copy them to the location where ETRANSMIT expects to find them.</li>\r\n \t<li>Click OK.</li>\r\n \t<li>Specify the name and location of the transmittal package.</li>\r\n \t<li>Click Save.<strong>\r\n\r\n\r\n</strong>ETRANSMIT creates the transmittal package (which is a ZIP file by default). Zipping creates a single, tidy, compact package of all your DWG, DGN, DWF, PDF, raster image, plot style table, and font files — all ready to be emailed.</li>\r\n</ol>\r\n<h2 id=\"tab4\" >FTP for you and me: Sharing your AutoCAD files</h2>\r\n<em>File Transfer Protocol (FTP)</em> is a system for sharing files over the Internet. A computer that’s connected to the Internet can act as an FTP <em>server,</em> which means that part of its hard drive is accessible over the Internet. The person who configures the FTP server can place restrictions so that only people who enter a particular logon name and password can see and download files. FTP overcomes the file size limitations that often occur with email.\r\n\r\nBecause of all these FTP benefits, people at larger companies commonly place drawing files on their company’s FTP sites and tell you to get the files. This approach relieves them of having to email you the files, and it relieves you of having to wait for that 19.9MB email download when you least expected it.\r\n\r\nThe person making the files available to you via FTP usually sends you a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that looks like a web page address, except that it starts with <code>ftp://</code> instead of <code>//</code>. Simply enter the FTP URL into the address field of your web browser and follow any instructions regarding the login name, password, filename that may appear.\r\n<h2 id=\"tab5\" >Increasing cloudiness: Using cloud services to swap AutoCAD files</h2>\r\nThe trend these days is away from private FTP sites due to the proliferation of free or inexpensive services such as Google Drive and Dropbox. These services work on pretty much the same principle. You upload a file or files and assign access rights. The intended recipient or recipients then receive an invitation email that grants access to the specified file or files.\r\n\r\nOkay, here’s a change already. Until recently, A360 was called Autodesk 360. Subject to change …\r\n\r\n… Oops, it changed again.\r\n<h2 id=\"tab6\" >Bad reception?</h2>\r\nIf you are on the receiving end of incoming drawings, as soon as you receive them (zipped, hopefully), copy the file to a new folder on your hard drive or a network disk and then unzip the files.\r\n\r\nCheck at least a few drawings in the package to make sure that all the xrefs and other reference files, fonts, and raster image files are included. Open each main drawing in the folder, press F2 to view the AutoCAD text window, and look for missing font and xref error messages, like this example:\r\n\r\n<code>Substituting [simplex.shx] for [helv.shx].</code>\r\n<code>Resolve Xref “GRID”: C:\\Here\\There\\Nowhere\\grid.dwg</code>\r\n<code>Can’t find C:\\Here\\There\\Nowhere\\grid.dwg</code>\r\n\r\nWrite down each missing file and then tell the sender to get on the ball (in a nice way, of course) and send you the missing pieces.\r\n\r\nIf you receive drawings with custom TrueType font files (files whose extensions are TTF), you must install those files in Windows\\Fonts folder (not in one of AutoCAD’s support folders) before Windows and AutoCAD will recognize them. All you need to do is to right-click the TTF file name, and then choose Install.\r\n\r\nIf you move project folders around or transfer drawings to or from somewhere else, AutoCAD may not be able to locate any raster image files and DWF/DWFx, DGN, PDF underlays and font files. The ETRANSMIT command does a good job of gathering dependent reference files, raster files, and font files, but it can’t gather what AutoCAD can’t locate.\r\n<p class=\"article-tips remember\">The AutoCAD Reference Manager utility (not included with AutoCAD LT) is a real lifesaver if you’re suffering from file-path perils, whether they occur in your own company or when sending files to, or receiving them from, others.</p>\r\nReference Manager is a separate program, not a command inside AutoCAD. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization did the inevitable and declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.\r\n\r\nSince that time and as of this writing, the numbers have been nothing short of grim: According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 400,000 people have died across the globe. Nearly three million others became infected but have since recovered. Epidemiologists almost unanimously agree that a second wave is coming in the fall of 2020.\r\n\r\nWhen coronavirus hit the United States in earnest, it evoked images of the 1918 Spanish flu. To minimize the carnage and stress on their healthcare systems, state governments — some far more reluctantly than others — issued stay-at-home orders.\r\n\r\nCOVID-19 did not just leave more than 100,000 dead bodies in its wake. It wrought psychological, social, and economic devastation as well. With respect to the latter, tens of millions of Americans lost their jobs. U.S. unemployment spiked to nearly 15 percent in April 2020. Most workplaces, parks, restaurants, schools, retail stores, and places of worship closed. Musicians postponed concerts, comedians canceled shows, and professional sports as the world knows them ceased to exist.\r\n\r\nAgainst this backdrop, hundreds of millions people needed to find new, virtual ways to work and, more than that, recapture some semblance of normalcy. In each case, Zoom was the most popular choice.\r\n<h2 id=\"tab2\" >How COVID-19 changed Zoom’s trajectory</h2>\r\nStarting in early February 2020, the company’s floodgates began to blow open. In a matter of weeks, oodles of businesses from mom-and-pop stores to large enterprises started getting Zoom religion. Examples of rapid Zoom adoption abounded during this unprecedented time. Here’s one of them.\r\n\r\nOn March 19, 2020, California governor Gavin Newsom issued a stay-at-home order for his state’s citizens. As a result, thousands of California-based businesses needed to adapt to a new world — and fast. One such shop was Reeder Music Academy based in Danville, California. Within a week, the 28-employee company migrated roughly 70 percent of its classes online using — you guessed it —Meetings & Chat. Thousands of small businesses in just one state would have immediately shuttered were it not for affordable videoconferencing tools such as Zoom.\r\n\r\nAnd Zoom adoption quickly spread to decidedly non-corporate environments. As but one example during the height of frenzy, teachers from more than 90,000 schools across 20 countries began educating their students from their homes via Meetings & Chat. Beyond professional reasons, people needed a way to connect with their family and friends. Again, Zoom answered the bell.\r\n\r\nTo say that Zoom’s user numbers exploded over a three-month period would be acme of understatement. By the end of March 2020, more than 200 million people participated in both free and paid Zoom meetings every day (Industry types refer to this number as <em>daily active users</em>, or DAUs.) By way of comparison, just four months earlier, Zoom had averaged approximately 10 million DAUs. The 2,000 percent increase was downright stupefying.\r\n\r\nAnd Zoom’s user growth didn’t stop there.\r\n\r\nDuring its first fiscal quarter of 2020 (ending on April 30), Zoom reported that its DAUs had climbed to 300 million — a 50 percent jump from only a month earlier. Many of those users decided to become proper customers. Company revenue in that quarter grew by an eye-popping 169 percent. Analyst Richard Valera of the asset-management firm Needham called the results “incredible.” (Read more about <a href=\"//on.wsj.com/2Y0RJjz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zoom’s most recent financial results</a>.)\r\n\r\nFast-forward a few weeks. As of June 2, 2020, Zoom’s market capitalization exceeded a staggering $58 billion. If you had bought Zoom stock just a few months earlier, you’d be ecstatic.\r\n\r\nIt wasn’t all puppy dogs and ice cream for Zoom, though. On the flip side, its viral consumer growth has led to some unexpected issues and a slew of bad press. For now, however, rest assured: Zoom’s management has taken its unforeseen challenges very seriously.\r\n<h2 id=\"tab3\" >The double-edged sword of sudden, massive growth</h2>\r\nConsider Amazon, Facebook, Google, eBay, Reddit, Uber, Airbnb, Twitter, Netflix, Craigslist, Nextdoor, and Zoom.\r\n\r\nWhat do they all have in common?\r\n\r\nMany things. Most important here, though, one is that their founders weren’t following tried-and-true playbooks that guaranteed success. That is, it’s not like these folks were starting Subway or McDonald’s franchises circa 2012. As such, they understandably failed to think about every possible use — and misuse — of their products and services along the way.\r\n\r\nFrom the onset, it’s essential to understand two things. First, Zoom is a not fundamentally insecure set of communications tools. Second, it is not a repeat privacy offender à la Facebook, Google, and Uber. Still, Zoom’s unprecedented growth unearthed some fundamental issues that its management and software engineers hadn’t considered, much less fully appreciated. You may have even heard of the most severe problem that the company has encountered to date.\r\n<h2 id=\"tab4\" >Zoombombing</h2>\r\nI often draw analogies and use metaphors to drive home my points, especially between Zoom communications and their brick-and-mortar counterparts. Here’s another one.\r\n\r\nGordon is meeting with a group of Japanese investors in his office. Young buck Bud has weaseled his way into Gordon’s waiting room. (In case you’re curious, I’m referencing the 1987 film <em>Wall Street</em>. What can I say? I’m a cinephile.) After a while, Bud becomes impatient and storms into Gordon’s office. He starts screaming at Gordon about a high-stakes deal involving his father’s airline gone bad.\r\n\r\nThink of Zoombombing as the digital equivalent of this scenario. Unknown and unwanted intruders entered countless Zoom meetings and started bothering participants and acting inappropriately. Think of it this way: For years, one of Zoom’s most valuable features was letting people quickly meet with others all across the globe. Within a few weeks, you could argue that that feature suddenly morphed into a bug.\r\n\r\nPrior to March 2020, the term <em>Zoombombing</em> effectively didn’t exist. (To be fair, though, trolls have long crashed many other videoconferencing tools.) Don’t take my word for it, though. The figure displays a Google Trends graph that proves my point:\r\n\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_272276\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"556\"]<img class=\"size-full wp-image-272276\" src=\"//coursofppt.com/wp-content/uploads/zoom-zoombombing.jpg\" alt=\"Zoom bombing\" width=\"556\" height=\"190\" /> Google Trends searches for Zoombombing over time.[/caption]\r\n\r\n \r\n<p class=\"article-tips tip\">Play around with <a href=\"//bit.ly/zfd-bomb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Trends</a> yourself.</p>\r\nGeneral trends are certainly informative, but by definition they mask individual stories. Tales of rampant Zoombombing pervaded local and national media precisely because Zoom exploded. For example, on April 6, 2020, the New York City Department of Education cited Zoombombing in its decision to ban its schools from using Zoom for remote learning. A few days earlier, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had issued a formal warning about criminals who were effectively hijacking classrooms across the country. A few litigious folks even filed lawsuits against Zoom.\r\n\r\nIn hindsight, the advent and rise of Zoombombing stemmed from several interrelated factors.\r\n\r\nBy way of background, at the end of 2019, 10 million people regularly used Zoom’s suite of communication tools. As former <em>Bloomberg Technology</em> cohost Cory Johnson used to say on air, “That ain’t nothing.” The vast majority of these people qualified as enterprise customers. That is, they happily used Zoom to communicate with colleagues, partners, subordinates, vendors, job applicants, and other businessfolks.\r\n\r\nThen, in late 2019, coronavirus shook the world.\r\n\r\nDespite adequate time to get ready for the inevitable, relatively few American institutions and companies were prepared for the end of normal life as they knew it. On the business front, even retail behemoths Amazon and Walmart experienced significant problems meeting customer demand. For its part, Zoom suddenly had to deal with two interrelated issues:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>A flurry of new users</li>\r\n \t<li>Fundamentally different types of users than those from its existing customer base</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<blockquote>There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">— Vladimir Lenin</p>\r\n</blockquote>\r\nIt’s impossible to overstate the enormity of Zoom’s challenge. One day, Zoom supported 10 million people, almost all of whom were enterprise customers. A few months later, it was providing critical services to 20 times as many folks across the globe from all walks of life. Very few companies have experienced anywhere near that type of exponential increase in such a compressed period of time.\r\n\r\nThe qualitative shift in Zoom’s customers and users was just as important as the quantitative one, if not more so. Enterprise tech and consumer tech are two very different types of animals, a fact that many people failed to appreciate.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, some of Zoom’s most vocal critics disregarded this critical distinction: The communication needs of large for-profit firms dramatically differ from those of school teachers, religious organizations, and the countless other decidedly nonbusiness groups that adopted Meetings & Chat in droves. Sadly, social media and outrage culture don’t lend themselves to nuance and facts.\r\n\r\nBefore detailing the specific changes that Zoom has made to date, it’s instructive to think about them in a different context.\r\n\r\nInterestingly and as an aside, Zoom’s tools held up just fine as its user base mushroomed. That is, its suite of tools experienced only a few minor hiccups. This remarkable achievement is a testament to Zoom’s modern technological underpinnings.","description":"The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked devastation throughout the world; in February, 2020, companies and individuals began turning to <a href=\"//coursofppt.com/article/technology/software/videoconference-software/zoom/zoom-for-dummies-cheat-sheet-272204/\">Zoom</a> as a way to continue conducting business meetings (from individual home environments) and to stay connected with friends and family.
